Electronic Arts is really dishing out the launch dates these days. And one of the games that could have the biggest fan base on release waiting for it is Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, the videogame based on the J.K. Rowling book that is set to be out on June 30, just before the movie based on the same book opens in theaters worldwide.
This is the sixth book in the Harry Potter series and it's one of the most praised by the fans of the series. The game based on it should arrive for the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii, the PlayStation 2, the PlayStation Portable, the Nintendo DS and the PC.
The game is set to offer players the chance to experience directly all those story elements that they have only read about until now. The sixth year at the magic academy at Hogwarts is one fraught with danger but also with a lot of discovery.
There are wizard duels to be fought, with high level spells thrown around, there are potions to be created in class, mixing a variety of ingredients and there are Quidditch games to be won through a combination of intelligence and skill. Electronic Arts is saying that the romantic elements that have been seen in the book will be present in the game and that one of the main quests will be directed at discovering the identity of the Half Blood Prince.
It's quite interesting to see Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince the videogame be released before the arrival of the movie bearing the same name. After all, videogame tie ins usually come after the main property in order to benefit from the buzz created by the media. Well, maybe Electronic Arts believes it has created a game better than the movie.
